between the Express 5210 and another unit by sending ping
requests to a specific IP address.

Sets the version of RIP being used on this interface.
The options are

V2
.
Method
Defines the method used to send RIP route advertise-
ments. The options are listed below:
N
ONE
: All routes in the router table are advertised
through this interface with no modification on the rout-
ing metric.
S
PLIT
H
ORIZON
: Only advertises routes not learned
through the interface.
P
OISON
R
EVERSE
: All routes are advertised, but the
routes learned through this interface are “poisoned”
with an infinite route metric.
Updates
Defines when RIP advertisements are transmitted. The
options are listed below:
P
ERIODIC
: RIP advertisements are periodically trans-
mitted.
T
RIGGERED
: RIP advertisements are transmitted only
when new routes are learned, and learned routes do
not age.
Authentication
When enabled, the unit requires all received RIP V2
packets to be authenticated against the configured
V2
S
ECRET
. This menu is only available if
P
ROTOCOL
is set
to
V2
.
V2 Secret
Sets the global RIP V2 password. Routes are adver-
tised and installed contingent on this parameter. This
menu is only available if
