2. INSTALLATION

After unpacking the System Name Total Reach OCU-R,

inspect it for damage. If damage has occurred, file a

claim with the carrier, then contact ADTRAN Customer

Service. Refer to the Warranty and Customer Service

section for further information. If possible, keep the

original shipping container for returning the Total

Reach OCU-R for repair or for verification of shipping

damage.

Shipping Contents

The contents include the following items:

• Total Reach OCU-R For Outside Plant All Rate

DDS Termination Unit

• Total Reach OCU-Remote For Outside Plant Job

Aid

CAUTION

Electronic modules can be damaged by ESD.

When handling modules, wear an antistatic

discharge wrist strap to prevent damage to

electronic components. Place modules in

antistatic packing material when transporting

or storing. When working on modules, always

place them on an approved antistatic mat that is

electrically grounded.

WARNING

• Never install telephone wiring during a

lightning storm.

• Never install telephone jacks in wet locations

unless the jack is specifically designed for

wet locations.

• Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or

terminals unless the telephone line has been

disconnected at the network interface.

• Total Reach DDS-CO unit normally provides

–130 V of span-powering voltage to the Total

Reach OCU-R.

CAUTION

Ensure ground continuity exists between the

unit, the housing, and a known approved

ground source.

Options

The Data Rate is automatically configured from the

Total Reach DDS CO unit. The Total Reach OCU-R has

a single position, board mounted DIP switch (Figure 3).

When 0 dB is selected on SW1 (Figure 4), the unit will

transmit a 0 dB AMI signal across the 4-wire customer

interface toward the DSU/CSU. When –10 dB is

selected, the unit will transmit a –10 dB AMI signal

toward the DSU/CSU.
